La Fave Marushkas

I'm home in Muskegon, visiting my parents and family. My sister, Rachael, my mom and I spent the day thrifting in Grand Haven. I really miss Michigan thrift stores. They are the best! 

I found these two beautiful silk screen framed wall hangings by "La Fave". One is two Blue Herons on a branch, and the other is a North American Goose. They're probably an off brand Marushka from the 70s. Since Marushkas were printed in Spring Lake, Grand Haven area, thrifting around here is perfect for finding them. They are all over my house, and the wonderful Lake Michigan scenes are beautiful and remind me of home. Rachael wasn't going to allow me to buy them since I have so many.

I removed them from their wooden frames with a screw driver and some pliers. I'm going to make two handbags while I'm home. I'll have to find some khaki material for the backside and the canvas for the front. Maybe some old wooden dowels for handles and make them into totes.

Go it's been a while since my last update, as it usually is... I'm trying to blog more, but I can't stand how my blog looks. It seriously needs a makeover.

Guess who gets to go to Michigannnn?!? I leave tomorrow to go home to visit family. I'm so excited.. I'm working on a list of places I have to make sure I go to while I'm home.. here is my list so far:

1. Fricano's pizza, downtown Muskegon or Grand Haven
Best thin pizza in the world!

2. Burger Crest in Fruitport
Amazing cheeseburgers. and they have these little apple pie nuggets that make me want to die.

3. LAKE MICHIGAN!
Even though it will be very cold and I have to be sure to pack my snow boots. I miss the lake.

4. City Cafe in downtown Muskegon
Best martinis ever and amazing food.

5. Valueland
I miss thrifting in Muskegon. I've boycotted Goodwills in Georgia. They throw away their donated cassette wallets, because "no one buys them" .. I tried making a deal with the manager to set them aside instead of throwing them away. But she was a total bitch so I'm done with that place. Plus they don't really contribute to the community. Salvo is where it's at. But Valueland beats em both hands down. It's not like I need anymore fabric though.

6. Pints & Quarts
Guiness on draft while hanging out with my brother. Mmmmm. Good times.

7. Biggby coffee
I used to be a barista at Michigan State when it was still Beaners. There are no coffee shops in Georgia that can even compare to Biggby! I absolutely hate Starbucks. I have been craving a Teddy Bear (white chocolate and caramel) latte since I left Michigan in November.

Now time to start packing all my warm clothes and boots. I haven't even seen snow this winter!

2010

It's a new year. so many new goals, and so many milestones to reach.

2009 was a great year. I took myself more seriously this year as a full-time designer, moved across the country, reached 200 sales, featured in blogs, gift guides, and the front page of etsy a few times.

This was all great and I'm very proud of my accomplishments last year. This year, taking it up a notch or two. Bigger goals, more intricate designs, and hopefully *fingers crossed* completely a collection of clothes for the spring/summer of 2010.

Oh, and I need to start blogging more. And build up my .com. My mind is going a million miles a minute! I am so pumped for what's to come.
